The kilogram is about to change. Gathering in Versailles, west of Paris, governments are expected on Friday to approve plans to use a scientific formulation to define the exact mass of a kilo. Until now, its mass has been defined by a golf ball-sized metal cylinder locked in a vault in France. For more than a century, it has been the one true kg.

The underground strategic oil storage at Padur in Karnataka has four compartments of 0.625 MMT of which half will be leased out to Abu Dhabi National Oil Co to store its oil. Allowing foreign companies to use the storage helps the government save on the cost of filling the reserves (Rs 10,000 cr) and it gives Indian government the first right to the oil in case of an emergency.

In the in-chamber proceedings, the judges examine the review petitions by circulation and lawyers are not present. A team of eight girls from Ramnarain Ruia College, Matunga, Maharashtra, discovered microbes and enzymes that turn the red paan colour into “a harmless colourless product." Railways in Mumbai alone spends crores on scrubbing off paan stains manually. The team got a grant of Rs 10 lakh and a gold medal from the Genetically Engineered Machines (iGEM) 2018 held in Boston, US.
